At some point, we've all had a want to be immortal. To be able to live on forever without having to worry about a random bullet ending it all. The book Origin by Jessica Khoury is about a 17 year old girl named Pia who has achieved a point of immortality no human ever has through science. However, being in a confined area in Little Cam, she wonders about the world around her that she has never seen. Many teen girls (or teenagers) can relate to Pia, for she must make choices that will either tear her family apart, or ruin Little Cam, or keep her family happy but totally ruin herself as a person and spend her time being tested on.
For starters, ever since Pia was a little girl, her uncle, mother and family have ket her ignorant about the world around her. She grew up only with her thoughts in mind to support her. However, a new scientist brought onto the ground helps her realize there is actually more to life than just Little Cam. There are many times she has had to make difficult decisons. Such as leaving Little Cam when she is forbidden to. Or even trusting a boy she meets in the jungle named Eio. However, both of these decisions help her feel something special. That special feeling is called "Freedom". Each and every young adult teen has felt what Pia has but not as litteral. We sometimes feel confined and trapped so we make decisions that benefit us for the greater good. But in the end, there are sadly always consequences to them.
Sometimes as much as we want to remake our decisions, we can't. But somehow in the end there is always a good and bad side of our decisions even if we dont see it. However, our life revolves around decision. Whether they are huge or tiny, we make them daily and that makes our life. Pia chose her decions even thought she was highly skeptical, but she gained what she always really wanted to feel. If there is something good in your decision, do it. We do always learn from our mistakes.
